Participation

The true development of man can take place only through the institutes that place development in the hands of the individuals who tilt our soil, raise our animals, weave our clothes and provide the world the essentials that it requires. Real development cannot be achieved unless the centre of development is the individual and family for whom it is meant. ARDAR has focussed in evolving systems that make the individuals especially the poor and vulnerable a member in the decision-making.

This real challenge has made ARDAR to evolve certain basic participatory principles in its planning and action:

»
ARDAR supports the individuals especially the poor and marginalized to take part in programme - level planning. These groups themselves develop their own indicators for progress.
»
They become a part of planning; making decisions and reporting at raise their voice through the right Medias and forums.
»
Thus the target individuals especially, the poor and the marginalized involved in monitoring, reviewing and evaluating the programmes meant for their development.
»
Wherever possible the groups are directly involved in recruiting and appraising members of the frontline staff.

ARDAR's practises, cost effective methods, research and strategies have not only won the hearts and love of the people but also praises from different quarters of the society far and near.

Accountability

For long the NGO sector has probed the business sector, trade unions and governments on issues like corruption, transparency, proper utilization of public fund etc. Increasingly it is realized that NGOs can also be infiltrated with the same problems. There has been an increase concern among the donor community and other stakeholders on who will 'Guard the Guardians'. Credibility Alliance a consortium of voluntary organisations in India has come out with guiding principles on good governance in terms of standards and disclosures. ARDAR is now member of CREDIBILITY ALLIANCE and maintains high transparency standards and disclosures. It is one of the first 20 organizations, which started making the disclosures. We also provide detailed feedback on how the money is utilized. This provides complete transparency and also ensures that the funds reach the right people and is utilized appropriately.
